DOMESTIC ARTS COURSE.

With a view of training n supply .of teachers of domestic subjects tho Victorian Education Department gives a three-years' course of training, two years of which must be spent in association with tho Training College, Melbourne, at tho Domestic Arts Hostel in Parkviile, and ono year as a student teacher in a domestic arts centre. The hostel accommodates 30 students. Students must l>e at least 17 years of age, and must givo promise of possessing teaching aptitude. No servants are employed in the hostel, and the whole of the household work of the establishment must bo performed by the students, who are instructed'in planning and supervising and carrying out domestic work and keeping of accounts. Courses of instruction are arranged at tho Domestic Economy College, at tho Training College, and at the University. Students qualifying for the department's certiflcato aro engaged as teachers of domestio subjects, and will be employed in domestio economy centres, in tho higher elementary schools,. and in high schools. The full course of study is as follows:—First yearEnglish, elementary science, short courses in elementary bacteriology and elementary biology, cookery, laundry work, householdeconomics, short courses in first aid and home nursing, art work, textiles, needlework, dressmaking, and millinery. Second year—English, physiology, cookery, laundry work, household economics, sanitation and applied hygiene, art work, textiles, needlework, dressmaking. Optional subjects are to be allowed, so that tenchers may specialise in some form of domestic work. • ■ .
