COMPENSATION.
CLAIM RE ROAD FORMATION. " OVER <81000 AWARDED, ) ' '~~ Decision was givon by the Compensation Court on Saturday morning in a claim that had arisen sometime ago in connection with road -formation in the Plimmerton district. The Court set up to deal with tho matter comprised his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman nnd two assessors, Mr. \V. M. Hamiay being for tho claimant, and Mr. H. if. Richards, of Levin, for the'respondent ( counoil. Tho claimant was James Walker, of Plimmerton, who sought to recover' the sum of .£2115 from the Jiutt County Coun-, cil in respect of certain lands taken;'and in respect of certain other lands injuriously affected. The County Council had refused to entertain the claim. Mr. E. Stafford, with him Mr. E. S. Staiford, appeared for the claimant, while Mr. A. de JU. Brandon appeared for the County Council. Tho Court awarded a sum of <620 in respect of two approaches to the claimant's land, but, if tho County Council should form these approaches, this sum is not to' be paid. On account of all other items in the claim the Court awarded tho sum of .6950. It further awarded, by way of interest, the sum of <663 15s. The amount fixed for compensation was fixed, on the assumption that tho claimant was to have the license of the County Council to carrya . permanent waterraco aoross the road. In order that claimant might decide whether ho would accept the right to carry water-across the road, the Court was adjourned until Tuesday, April 1. - The fees payable'by each party to its own assessor were fixed at <642.
