CITIZENS' CARNIVAL.
, ' MORE DONATIONS RECEIVED. ; Everything in' the'way of arrangements for the carnival at Easter is going on merrily. Yesterday thrco additional cash donations, were received—Wqrkingmen's Club, ,£lO 10s. j Chapman, Skorrett, Tripp, and Blair, .«£5 ss. j Dresden Piano Company, .£3 Bs. The Workingmen's ■ Club liavo, ala> allowed canvassers to circulate books of tickets amongst members in the club—an unusual favour, which the executive of the carnival appreciate. , As soon as tho special committeea have all dealt with the aotails assigned to them there will bo a general meeting of members of all committees, by which meeting the arrangements will be reviewed generally. It is not expected that there, will bo another general meeting of citizens.
Tho Corporation Staff Committeo have resolved to call a general meeting of the staff .within a day or two for the purpose of making plans to assist the Carnival Committee.
Last evening the Mayor ' (Mr. D. M'Laren) met the Wellington Centra of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, together with representatives of the' Sports Committeo; of tho : Carnival, and discussed with them tho , suggested Gala Day at Lyall Bay. As tho outcome of tho meeting the Sports Committee representatives will recommend their com-mittee-to leave the arrangements for the function, which, it is intended, will bo. hel,d the Saturday before Eastor, in the hands of the Wellington Centre, with a strong recommendation from the Mayor, that tho centre invite all surf r'ubs to co-operate with them. It is uncertain now whether both Wickham and Healr, the Australian swimmers.' will .both bo present at the carnival. Probably Wickham will be. here, but it is doubtful whether Healey will como to Now Zealand at all.
The question of holding a swimming carnival at the baths was also* discussed at tho meeting, but it was thought best to allow the centre to consider the Lyall Bay proposal before coming to definite decision.
It wa3 apparent from the tone of the mooting that the Swimming Association, and thoso connected with aquatic sport, are very enthusiastic supporters of tho oarnival scheme.
Tho Stalls Committee nf the Carnival met last evening in the Town Hall, rind there was a good attendanoo of ladies Collectors reported good progress, anil arrangements -were mad® for further collections of goods.
