(From Oar Special Corrc6pondcnte.) ♦ :— FEATHERSTON, _ Jl , r - A- £■ Pna E?. secretary of the Now Zealand Sports Protection League, addressed a well-attended meeting at the lown Hall here,on Wednesday evening, and explained the objects of the league; Mr. J. W. Card, chairman of the Town Board, presided. It was decided that a branch of the league bo formed in Peat herstou, and the following officers wero elected:-Patron, Mr. W. E. Bidwill; president, Mr. J. W. Card; vice-presidents, Messrs. Allen Donald, A. Tait, and A. J. loogood; committee, Messrs. A. H. Haves, J. M. M'Kain, D. Goddard, M. Ford, and W. J. Bell. Mr. .1. \V. M'Kain was elected secretary pro tem. Dr. E. E. Brown, fofmerlv of the Wellington Hospital, who has been acting as locum tenens for Dr. Palmer for the past twelve months, leaves Wellington on Friday for Melbourne, where he will join the steamer Suffolk for tho trip to land^OTAKI. A branch of the Sporta' Protection League is shortly to bo formed in Otaki. The tender of Mr.' J. S. Pole has been accepted for tho erection of a parsonage ut Utald. , . Messrs. W. I. Shank/, and K. R. Watson arrived hero on Tuesday, after an eventful trip across the Tararuas from Greytown. Tho party encountered rough weather, and were delayed in consequence of which their rations ran short. Mr. Watson w'U furnish a report to the Public Works Department. FEILDING. - Tho fifth annual farmers' picnic was held in Mr. N. C. Jensen's beautiful grounds at Valley Road yesterday. An endeavour is being made to revive the Operatic Society in Felding.
