A Ronnotea Wedding. • The marriage took place.last Saturday in St. Simon and St. Judo's Church, Rongotea, of Mr. H. S. Towncnd, of Hima--tangi, and Miss M. E. Taylor, daughter of the tho late Mr. W. Taylor, of Tflikorca. Tho Rev. P. T. Fortune conducted the service, and Mrs. E. Durham played the organ. The church, which was filled with friends, had been prettily decorated with flowers and foliage. The bride was gowned in white satin veiled with ninon and Limerick laoe, and her tulle veil was secured with orange blossoms. Miss D. Taylor (sister) and Miss Balcombe-Brown (cousin) were the bridesmaids. Tho former, was in a green.' silk- dress; draped with ivory ninon and ,lace,'and a. black hat with old gold roses. Her bouquet cvried out the same. colour harmony. Miss Balcombe-Brown wore pink silk veiled with white ninon and black hat with white roses. Her bouquet, wis also of 'flowers to match. > ' ,
Hastings Wedding. ' '.'.'« In St., Matthew's Church, Hastings, the .marriago took'plac© on Tuesday of Miss Kathleen Braithwaite, only daughter .of Mr, and Mrs. Robert A. W. Braithwaite, of Hastings, and Mr. William Hamilton Maitland, secretary to Thomas Bflrthwick and Sous, Ltd. (Paki Paki). The Rev. J. B. Br'ocklehurst performed the ceremony, a very largo gathering, of friends and relatives being present,, in 1 ; the church. Tho bride, who was given away by her father,' wore a gown of ivory satin, with draped tunic of ninon .and Brussels lace, and a veil and wreath of orange blossoms. Miss Leila Smith attended her as raaid-in-waiting, and was gowned in \ cream crepe do chino trimmed, with,lace and a black hat, with white tulle and o'sprey pliimes. Mr. ,V,. Hoadley was the best man. / ■A reception was afterwards held at Rakttiiroa, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Braithwaite, and: later the bride and bridegroom left for Waikareinoana, tho firmer wearing a travelling dress of dull b|ue satin, with cream lace tunic and gpldcn brown hat, with shaded blue and ; Crimson roses-. ■■•.> .■.•■■■■ ■ ' : At the Paki Paki freezing works on Monday the general manager, Mr. Q. R; Croll, acting on behalf of presented Mr. 'Maitland with; a handsome roller r t6pped escritoire, in token of the goodwill and esteem of the men. At tho Hastings CluVon' Monday evening Mr. E. H. Williams', vice-president, , presented Mr. W. H. Maitland, on boholf of a number of his friends, with a: handsome liqueur stand, wishing him every happiness. ■ ' .. "!■ " ■: ' ■
A New Plymouth Wedding. ■ A pretty wedding took place in St. Marys Church, New Plymouth, on Monday, when Miss 11. Ashdown, daughter of Mrs. Ashdown, Hendon, London, was married to Dr. Blacklcy. of Now Plymouth; late of March Hills, Dumfries, Scotland.. 'Tlio Rev. A. 11. Colville performed the ceremony. " The bride, who was given nway by Dr. Walker*, wore ft gpwh of whito crepe de chine, draped with laco and finished with silver trimming, and'it, veil and wreath of real roraiige blossoms. > Her bouquet, wan of white rosea, dahlias, an<l maiden-hair fern. Miss Catherine .Walker and Miss Mary Robertson, both diminutive bridesmaids, were in attendance upon the bride, and wore pretty frocks of white muslin and Tuscan hats, trimmed with white roses. They carried bouquets of white flowers, and wore silver beads, .the: gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Sam... Blackley. was-,the best man. ■..-.' _ ' ',Mra. Walker wore a Mack glace silk gAwn,. trimmed with lace and touches of heliotrope and black hat; with lancer plumes.' Mrs.'D'Aroy, Robertson was in a cream frock with touches of blue, and a black hat with white feather and law. A reception was held at Dunrue, • the residence of Dr and Mrs Walker; and, later, Dr. and Mrs. Blacklcy left for the south, the latter travelling in a pretty nev dross, trimmed with satin, and a grey hat with lancer mkrnes. They are leaving this week by the Maman for England, and will probably: be away from the Dominion for about a year.
Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool has expressed her willingness to. become . She has not yet even gazed on the sea." Dr. Valintino (Inspector-General of Hospitals) and Mrs. Valintine, left Auckland on Tuesday on their return to Wellington. '.'.'. Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Neave (Christchurch) are visiting Wellington, and are staying at tho Empire Hotel. Mrs. Wolters (Carterton) has been visiting Wellington. . A Golden Weddinn. On Friday, January 24, nt their residence, Ronwicktown, Mr. and Mrs. G. Bary celebrated the jubilee of their golden wedding. The guests \nero received in tho hall by their host and hostess, Mrs. Bary wearing a black silk dress trimmed with silk laoe mid jet, and a whito oap of Maltese lnce. The drawing-rooms were decorated with sweet pens awl forns. Afternoon tea was served in a large mar-, quee erected on the lawn, the tables being decorated with marguerites nnd gypsophila. The Iter. W. O. Robb presided over tho gathering, and about 100 guests were present. During tho afternoon foveral toasts were honoured, that of the host and hostees being proposed by Mr. E, H. Penny, who referred to tho esterling work Mr. and' Mrs. Bary have dono in the district in which they have ■«• sided for over half a century.,; They havo been, and still are, connected with manv religious, public, and social movements in Marlborough.. Ho was' pleased to say that their family of twelve children wero still all living ami able to bo present, on this festive, occasion. The -family • comprises seven eons, namely—Messrs. Charles (Wellington), William and John (Renwick), Gustav (Frankton), James and Albert (Tua Marina), and Edward (New Plymouth) j. and five daughters—Mrs. Dowling (New Plymouth), Mrs. Brydon (Hunvorth), Mrs. Biggins- (Frankton),-Mrs. Slow (Wairau Valloy), and Jltss A. Bary (Dunedin). Mr. and Mrs. Bary have a number of grand-children, of -whom ,twcnty-nvo vera present. Australian-New Zealand Wedding. . ' 'Ari evening -wedding was celebrated at St.:' Philip's Church, Church Hill, Sydney, on Monday, December 30, when Gladys Myrtle, eldest daughter of Mrs.'Mnity, "Edgecliffe," ,-Balmain E., and the late Alderman T. F. Minty, was mamcd r to Mr: Edward Harrison, third son of Mrs. Harrison, late of Mohurangi, Auckland, New Zealand, and the-lato James Harrison, of Wakefield, Yorkshire, Lnglaiul. The-: bride, who was given away by Mr. J. Conolly, was dressed in ivory charmeuse, with an overdress of Irish crochet, thQ long 'train being .-finished with clusters of orange blossoms and embroidered horseshoes. An embroidered tiillo veil (lent by n friend) was worn over a wreath of orange blossoms, and slio carried a, shower bouquet of white roses and hues of tnO valley, which, with a diamond and pearl pendant, were the gifts of the bridegroom. Sire was attended by Miss Ireda Minty. wlib wore pale pink crepe do ohino finished with Oriental embroidery, and a mob cap to''match. Her posey of la Franco roses with her Nellio Stewart bangles were the bridegroom's gifts. Mr. Albert Harrison was best man. The ceremony was performed by tho Rev. A Presentation.Mr. and Mrs. .E. H. Lawford, who are leaving' Dannovirk© shortly ou a visit'to England, 'were presented on Tuesday evening with ai purse of sovereigns from the Dannovirke Operatic Society. Mr. W. H. Hartgill (president) made the presentation, and on behalf of tho society wished thom both a very pleasant trip. He also expressed tho society's appreciation of the work which they hod done for it.
