GERMAN EDUCATION SYSTEM.
— —»■'■■'■■■-. Tho Roman. Catholic ATchbisliop, of Liverpool (Dr. White<ridc), in a recent'speech, compared the English and German systems of 'education. 'They partly admired •and partly feared the Germans, he said, and many thought there would be a German.invasion. Supposing they did come, what Would'they do?. .Establish their system of education.. ' What was their system?' Everybody—it did not matter who—must be taught the religion of their parents. The- German Government built schools for all the ; chief denominations. Catholics had their schools built for them with' Catholic teachers in them. Tho Germans believed in tho value of religion as a great . asset. They believed they could not make good citizens unless they had a religious ideal. ' Germany was going ahead in point of population, but France, its rival, was decaying. Why ? In France they had driven religion, from their schools. They had erased from tho school-books tho great name of God. What was the result?, With its'rapidlydecreasing population Franco would soon becomo a third-rate Power. Unless people were animated by.religion they would not do the right thing.
