AN ACTORS SERVICE.

../■;.■ ■;■ ■„. ■ : Tho eighth annual service' in connection' with the Actors' Church Union, of which tho Eev. David Dorrity is.the local chap--1 lain, was held at St*. Ami's Church. Manchester,, recently. , Tho Eev. A. B. Cornibeer, of Sacred Trinity, Salford,, was the preacher, and tho. lessons were read by Mr. Lewis Casson, o| the Gaiety Theatre. Mr. Cormbeer took his text from Acts six, ■ 29—-"They rushed with one accord into.tho, theatre." He said there .were somo people who.still thought it was an extraordinary thing that there should be such a body as,the , Actors' Church Union. 'Ho could not under'\stand the outlook'of such people on life, nor could he understand what their! religion really Was. Those whose'- work it was-to show forth on the stage what human nature was had received great gifts from God which, they could use to His honour, and glory' and for the benefit of humanity at large. Tho Actors' Church Union was not a mission to the theatrical profession, biit it was a witness that the Church had a place within Jier fold for the actor and actress as for others.. .Some of the most magnificent sermons that had ever been preached, and somo of tho most important lessons that had ever been taught had been preached and, taught from tiio boards of the theatre. It was a play that-, lie witnessed as' a youth that made liini'think seriously', for the first time in his, life ,of the; great ■problems'-with which wo Were faced today. He claimed.the theatre for Christ as'he, claimed the Church .for Christ. Christ'came on earth to redeem tho U;hole of mail's nature—body, soul, anil spirit— and Christ would share in tho joys, tho pleasures, and the amusements of God's peoplo as well as in their sorrows.
