A MOTOR BUS SCHEME.
MEETING AT KELBTJRNE,
At tho invitation of tho promoters of the Kelburno _ Motor Bus Company, a number of residents met at .tho Kell-'irno Church Schoolroom. Mr. Thontas Ward, A.M.1.C.E., presided, and explained, the scheme; In tho first place, lio said, they had to consider whether the bus could carry sufficient people to bo ablo to fulfil the agreement with tho Kelburno and Karon Tramway Comuauy, Ltd., and the agreement with the Upland Estate Company, Ltd. Thcso agreements provided that tlio bus must carry 450 passengers per day, and if this were dono tho fares on tlio cablo cars would bo reduced to Id., and if 25 per cent, more were carried a' subsidy of .£OOO ner ; annum would bo earned. Tho count c(f people walking to tho car was 2000. so that the required number would bo forthcoming, especially fig by .taking the bus tlio people would save from 10 to 15 minutes, besides tho saviiip in faro of Id. Secondly they had to consider whether tho bus scheme would pay. Mr. Ward went on to say that at a maximum tlio cost of running would be lOd.-per mile, and by carrying the passengers it was expected that this would bo met, and a considerable profit would bo shown Over and above that. Tho Hon. A. L. Herdman thought that tlio schomo would be beneficial not only to the shareholders, Who would receive good dividends, but also to tlio residents of Kelburno, Karori, and the 6urrounding districts. Messrs. A. R. Meek, J. F. Mills, and others also spoko in favour of tho scheme, and it was unanimously deoided to form 'the'oompany. Those present agreed to form thcmselvos into a committee.to canvass for signatures to tlio share list.
