THE CONFERENCE PROPOSAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright I (Rec. 1 January 24, 11.30 p.m.) London, January 24. "The Times," in referring to the reoent statement of Senator Pearce, Australian Minister for Defence, with regard to the subsidiary naval conference, proposed by Australia, says the British Government is in no wise unfavourable, but the notice given ,in tho Australian pro-, posal was far too short to permit of arrangements being, made. Tho selection of a time and place for a conference is still under consideration. Owing to the Australian elections, it is unlikely that a conference' can be arranged before the summer.
