FRANCHISE BILL.
PARTY SPLIT FEARED,
WOMAN SUFFRAGE.
THE MEASURE IN DANGER.
By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright
London, January 22.
Many Liberals fear that the movement towards women's franchise will create a permanent party split. In any case Sir Edward Grey's amendment omitting the word "male" from the measure endangers the passage of the Bill, by forcing the Liberals ,to fight the next election without the abolition of tho plurality vote.
Tho position is somewhat chaotic,
If Mr. Dickinson's amendment is defeated many of the Liberals and Labourites will oppose Mr Lyttelton's amendment as tending to endow the unionists with a new form of plurality.
Mr.- Dickinson's amendment gives the vote to womeiuover 25 years of age who are occupiers or the wives of occupiers, thus enfranchising six million people. Mr. Lyttelton's oniendmcnt enables women to vote at municipal elections.
