The recommendations of a sub-committee, previously appointed to -report to the council on ; the question, included conditions safeguarding the ratepayers' interest. A fire at 3.30 this morning in Ollivier's Road totally destroyed -a four-roomed house owned by Mr. M'Causland. It contained furniture, but whs unoccupied. The insurances arc not available. . NEW,HUDDART-PARKER BOATS. Dunedin, January- 22. The Huddart-Parker Company has plac,ed an order in England for one and pos--two steamers of the Zealandia typo. Good burns have been,secured, by the settlers in the back-blocks', who have had tho bush' felled. In somo districts tho •logs left 'from previous- burns have been fired, and the fires havo taken, charge of a considerable area of country. Dunedln, January 22. The tailors' dispute was heard before the'- Conciliation Commissioner (Mr.. Triggs) ■ to-day. At the Hospital Board meeting it was reported that a number of cases had occurred where persons suffering from infectjous diseases, such as tubcrculosis_ and diphtheria, had consulted'a chemist, who, it was alleged, failed to correctly diagnose, and had treated, them. on. his own lines, instead- of sending them. to' doctors. ,'. The point stressed by the board in the subsequent discussion was that the tuberculosis dispensary had been specially provided for the treatment of all cases which possibly might be ' consumptive,, and the public should more and more acquire the fullest possible use of the facilities there.' offered of having • correct and competent diagnosing made. ..'; . i : WATER BURST FROM GLACIER. , ' Tirriaru, Jaiiuary 22. , . ( The Sood'Of Sunday was quite phenomenal. A rush of water' came suddenly from the Mueller Glacier through an old breach in the moraine towards Kea'Point, and covered a large area with big boulders.
