(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) » ■• Auckland, January 22. : It is understood that a board of inquiry is to bo set up in regard to tho case of llonry Johnson, the escapee from, the Avondalo Mental Hospital. - ,"'■•'' Johnson has now been sixteen days at liberty, and' his friends aro so convinced of his sanity that they have asked for an inquiry by the Department, at which independent medical evidence may bo secured. Whether the Department has acceded to the request is not known, but yesterday Mr. J. It. Litndon received a' telegrain from Mrs. Johnson asking him if ho would go' to Waihi to act as solicitor on behalf of her husband at an inquiry, and ho replied that ho would bo willing to do
It is felt by Johnson's friends that an inquiry and an examination'by .independent doctors is l the satisfactory course to pursue, and that if an inquiry is held, Johnson will bo willing to leave his hiding place and abido by tho decision of those appointed to conduct the inquiry.
