A long and interesting letter from Professor Ernest Hneckol, the world-famous veteran biologist of Jena,. and uuthor of the "Riddle of the Universe," "The; Evolution of Man," and numerous'well-known-scientifio works, has. just- been received by Mr. G. A. Rawson, of Auckland. -, s Mr. -Rawson has been in correspondence with Professor Haeckel'for the past six years, i'" % - ■ ■ - v ..--.; ■'■ The great biologist ends- his letter in rather a pathetic vein. In 1911 he sustained 'a serious fracturo of the hip through a fall from' a chair in his library: This Has ,nover ; healed properly, and, referring to it, he says that it has caused a severe lameness.
"I' cannot," ho continues, "walk nor voyage, nor ■ do. any more' earnest scien-tific-.work. my publications aro finished;, and 'I- am preparing.; for the last voyage to the Buddhistio': Nirvana.
