F.razor, PostmasterGeneral in (he Commonwealth, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and vent south by the second express, ifr. Frazer went to Mr. Reid's home at Qamaru this afternoon,' and will stay with Mr. Koid to-morrow, and will go on to Dunedin on Monday. l He will spend Tuesday in ■that city, and on Wednesday will -go to Kingston and Queenstown. Mr. Frnzcr intends to leave tho Bluff for Melbourne by the Ulimaroa ; on January 27. In an interview, -ho said be had nothing' of importance to state for publication. He. had had a. most delightful visit to the North Island, • and expected to have an equally delightful ono in,the South Island. As to his conference with the '■ Hon! R. H. Rhodes, the Postmaster-General of New Zealand, Mr. Frazer said that he dad not wish to discuss that or any other postal matter in public, and would leave Mr. Rhodes -to make any public statement in that direction considered necessary.

EMPLOYER'S LIABILITY CLAIM FAILS.
v Dunedin, January 19. On December 20, before tho Arbitration Court, Jano Dougherty,, of Wyndham, claimed from/Charles Milne,of .Edendale, ,£SOO and .£2O expenses as compensation for the death of her husband, Thomas Dougherty, who was killed on the railway at Wyndham on April 8 while employed bv the respondent. Tho deceased was fatally injured by a train while walking along tho line to look at a horse with tho prospect of purchasing it for his employer, 'flic Court held that the accident did not arise out of the deceased's employment, and judgment was given for tho defendant. FUNDS FOR LIFE-SAVING. ' Christchurch, January 19." Tho street collection yesterday in lid of tho Royal Life-Saving Society for funds for extending tho'life-saving facilities at the seaside resorts, near ' Christchurch, produced a total,of ncarlv JB3OO. Tho "Get-ltich-Quick. Wallingford _ Company rendered materinl assistance in the collection of this sum, and received the thanks of tho city from the Mayor at the theatre last evening. Smash & plucky driver. Te Kuiti, January 19. A wagon, owned by Messrs. Stevens and Co., and driven by George M'Laren, arriving last night from Piopio loaded .with wool, collided with a train at"a level, crossing on the Awakino Road. The wagon was smashed and tho wool bales cut about.' The man pluckity stuck to thb horses, which were not injured. M'Laren had on arm cut and a wrist broken by one of the-horse's hoofs. . ■
