STONE FRUIT.IN HEAVY SUPPLY,

Very heavy shipments of stono fruits have reached the Blair and Alien Street inarkets during the week: Pinches are coming forward in thousands almost daily. Thb principal supplies are-coming from Ha'wke's Bay ami Motueka. Plums and apricots'from the. above .districts and .from as far north as Whangarei arc in 'heavy supply. Apples from Moteuka and Auckland aro also coming in freely. The Manuka, from Sydney, brought a. fairly large shipment of passion fruit, Melbourne pears,, cucumbers, water melons, Messina lemons, pineapples, and grapes, Tho Melbourne steamer landed only a small shipment of pears and cherries. The Navua, from Fiji, landed for this port ISOO cases and 24,000 bunches of bananas. Owing to the heavy total and the fact that so much local stone fruit was available, there was a lack of spirit at the sales. The, first shipment of New South Wales grapes 'opened tip in only fair condition an<f did not command much attention from buyers. < Californian oranges meet with slow sale at 16s. per case, and Messina lemons aro plentiful at 16s. per case of 150 to 180. Queensland pines arrived in frail condition and realised from 6s. to Bs. per case. Water melon's meet with fair sale at Is. to 3s. each according to size. Australian pears meet with good sale. The bulk easily passed Government inspection, but last week consignments were' condemned for Codlin moth and had to bo reshipped to '■Sydney.-: Tho average price ,for good fruit sold on Thursday was 13s. to 15s. per bushel case. Passion fruit uold at 4s. to Gs. per, half-gin case.. Australian grapes, although brought across in the cool chamber, opened : up in poor condition, a good proportion being wet. Tho average price realised was. abut 75.. per half-gin case, but had the fruit been in good, order it would,have realised about 10s./to 12s. Fiji bananas being in large supply meet with only moderate demand. Choico green cases, of bananas/'realised 7s. to 9s. 9d.; others Is. to 55.; choice bunches, 25.; to 3s. 3d.'; ripe, 3d.'to Is. Gd.
