AMERICAN BEEF.

EXPORT TRADE TO BRITAIN. The American, beef export trade is now reaching tho vanishing point, and, says the-New York "Journal of Commerce," not a pound of dressed beef was exported to Great Britain during September, October, and November, while only DOO head of cattlo were exported during the same time. v Thcra is little' prospect that any beef exports will take place from the United States during 1913, and there must bo a revolution in tho cattle-raising industry in the States, beforo it can ever again be a beef-exporting country. The domestic demand is now much in excess of supply, and importations of live cattle aro rapidly growing. It is thought, .however, that the present state of things may lead to somo reaction. Many thousands of Western and South-Westeru farmers, who formerly gave attention to cattlo-raising, and abandoned it when prices wore discouragingly low, now find that they have produced grain and feed crops in such bulk that it is unmanageable for market, whilo they have no cattlo to feed. There is accordingly more demand for "feeders," and tho growing plan is to winter all such available stock on the bountiful supply of feed'stuff, .which it is hoped will result in a. greater number of marketable cattle next spring than for somo time past.
