TEACHING THE ART AT BATHS. 'Tho Te Aro Baths were weir patronised .i on Wednesday afternoon, when Mr. T. Shields gave a number of le&i ■ tons in swimming. Mr. Shields has been ' teaching; boys for some considerable time ' past, but little -girls, who ■ cannot swim, have not. had the opportunity to be tnnght up till last Dr. Platts-Mills. has, however, taken up the '■ matter, and she visited the girls' baths in .1 company with Mr. Shields on Wednesday afternoon. Arrangements have ,now. bean .' made whereby Mr. Shields will spend two hours /at the girls' baths teaching girls to swim, and two hours in the boy? ' baths, every Wednesday afternoon. Inst Wednesday afternoon Mr. Shields passed the following boys for distance . swimmingi'certificates:— —.King, 2000 , yards; W. Montgomery (Terrace School), 1760. yards;, G.
