The acting-medical superintendent at tho hospital (Dr. Maguirc) urged upon tho Hospital Board the necessity of making somo arrangement for tho treatment, of patients suftoring from doliriuru tremens, othor than putting them in a small room off a general ward in tho hospital, Tho other evening," ho reported, a patient who had been admitted; just a few hours had an attack of maniacal violence, aud.had it not been for tho very plucky intervention of' Dr. GTant, assisted by several patients in No. 3 Ward, Dr. Maguiro felt sure that murder would havo wen done. It was. oxtrcmcly difficult, under present conditions; ho wont on to say, to treat this class of patient properly, and it was a constant source of danger treating them in a small room off a tig ward. : Tho members of the board were fully' in agreement with the contention of tho medical superintendent, and it was-re-cognised that the matter was ono requiring immediate attention. The chairman mentioned that tho Government had already undertaken to defray the expense of providing such an institution. •
The question was referred to tho Building Conimittco nnd tho architect to subrait a report and .plans to the next meeting of tho board. Meanwhile tho committee will scizo tho opportunity of \ Dr, Valintino's presence in Auckland to consult him on the matter.
