Against this we' nave the fact that prices are high, money is dear, and the political situation In tiiol Near East ra still very much unsettled. The main factor is that the wool is want-1 ed, and while it is hardly reasonable' to expect prices to go higher, there is evcrv warrant for hclieving that the market will be firm at November rates. i. . TWELVE MONTHS' EXPORTS. The values of the principal products exported last year exhibit a substantial increase, over those of 1911, and the details compare as under:— " ' 10t!> 'ion
20,078,605 • 17,594,965 The increase in value amounts to £2123. 641, equal to nearly '12 per cent. Dealing with quantities there are increases in butter and chcose, frozen beef and mutton' and a slight shrinkage in lamb. Wheat exported was only about half tho quantity in 1911. The past year was an excellent one for oats, as tho exports totalled 4.125,520 bushels against 73,126 bushels In 1911. Potatoes also show a great expansion, tho.-total being 19,984 tons, against 1254 tons. The failure of the Australian crops and tho consequent high price of the tuber accounts for this. There was a shrinkage in the quantity of hemp exported, but owing to an advance in prices tho return from tho smaller quantity was much higher. The exports of tow, koitri gum, grain and pulse, hops, hitlee, skins, talloiv, timber, and woo! were largerthere wn-i' a shrinkago in the gold exports, the quantity being 343,162oz„agaJnM 455.1860z. in 1911. The higher export return, if not oifEet by excessive imports, will help to incfoaso confluence. • !"

;At-tho! extraordinary general meeting called by circular of July 20, 1912, and hold i on August 6,'1912, the nominal • capital of ■ the company was increased to £300,000, and it was resolved to-offer to shareholders 4750 new £10 shares, to be called up at present to £5, in order to make the paidup capital £125,000. Of the- first instalment of these new shares, 4236 were applied for and oilotcd, on which all duo calls havo beeft' paid, tho balance being payable on March 20, 1913. Tho balance of 1454 new shares were offered by circular on October 29, 1912, for application on' or before January 20, 1913, the greater part of these have already been applied for. The balance-sheet at December 31, 1912, now submitted, shows that tho expectations expressed to shareholders, by tnc circular of July 20, 1912, have, so far, been fully sustained, and that the results indicated justify the directors in recommending tho shareholders to approve the payment of a dividend of 4J per cent, for the half-year.
