METHODISM.
The quarterly meeting of the Board of .Management of Taranaki, Street .Church was held on Friday evening, ,thß Rev. J. G. Chapman presiding over a representative gathering. . Reports . showed , that there are 531 adult and : 90. junior members on the roll in tho circuit,: a slight increase on last quarter's nnmbers. , 'The. balance-sheet, showed <£309 receipts, with a credit balance of. .£2B for the quarter. The balance-sheet was adopted. Trie -bal-ance-sheets of tho Tory arid Aro , Streot Missions revealed a.small debit, riot unexpected at this period of the' year.. Satisfaction wns expressed at the success of the effortyeoently made to procure, funds for the erection of a much-needed building for the children at Aro Street, a sum of XGS being obtained. The Sunday School and Endeavour Societies' reports wero satisfactory.- Messrs. W. E. Bedstone and L. J. Olark were re-elected circuit stewards, and were also j appointed representatives to. the forthcoming conference next montli, with Messrs. 11.I 1 . Chin.chen and' G. Williams as substitute representatives. . Eleotions for other i offices in the church resulted mostly in'the re-election of the present occupants. _ The quarterly meeting 'in connection with the Levin-Otaki Methodist Circuit was held at the Century Hall, Levin, on Wednesday afternoon last, when there was a fairly good attendance, representatives being present from Levin, Manakau, Otaki, and Te Horo. The Eev. T. F. Jones presided.. The financial statements presented showed that both ends of the circuit had credit, balanoes in hand—a very satisfactory state of affairs. Sunday school reports received were-also satisfactory. It was.reported that tho sum of .£2B ss. had bdfcn sent from tho circuit for the year for Homo Missions, and .633 6s. ,for Foreign Missions, the latter amount including, a donation of ;610-from Miss Irwin, of Manakau, for the maintenance of a Native teacher at tho islands. Mr. A. H. Hill was accepted as a . fully accredited local preacher. It 'was resolved that fortnightly services be held at Waihoanga, instead of monthly. Messrs. Frank Penn and P. W. Goldsmith wero reappointed senior and junior. circuit stewards respectively. It was resolved that the next meeting be held at Manakau-on April 2, at 7 p.m. At tho conclusion of tho meeting all the representatives, together with a few friends, were entertained at tea, served in the Century Hall. Mr. A. M'Bain returned thanks to the ladies for the liandsome manner in which they had catered' for the visitors. Mr. P. W. Goldsmith; of Levin, was elected to represent the circuit at the, forthcoming conference to commence, at Wellington on February next.. Mr/ Frank Penn was : elected as substitute representative. This conference will bo a mcmorablo one, as it will bo the first conference of tho United Methodist and Primitive Methodist Churches. It is expected that fully 300 representatives will attend the conference, which will bo held at the Taranaki Street Methodist Church.
