M'Ewan) presided. An . extensive > programme for sea, land, ' and r swimming sports ; wps'drawn, up,. and, those-present formed themselves into a general committee to further the', arrangements. The following were elected conveners of .subcommittees:—Mr. M'Ewa'n, ■■children's sports; Mr. Brockelbank, land sports; Mr. Head, swimming; sports. It is'estir mated that the amount to.-be expended on prizes will be X9O, and tho outside expenses for running the gala day. is .£3O, making the' estimated expenditure , Xl2O. Up'till the present the amount' on the books as .donation towards the; funds of the day is .£9O 19s. _ The monthly meeting of the Hutt Eivei Board was held last evening; and was attended by Messrs. Baldwin, Knight; and Welch. Mr. H. \ Baldwin was elected chairman for. the current;.; year. ' Mr, Bowers was granted leave of absence, and Mr.' T. A. Peterkin's resignation ,as .o member was accepted. Mr, A. Dunn (or behalf of the -Belmont Xand 'Company, complained that the board' had been unfair in asking.the'company to repair damage to the protective works and rivei bank facing their property. He suggest ed that the board should do the work. II was pointed out that the rates in thu quarter only realised -610 per year.. Thi letter, was; received.
