CARTERTON ITEMS.
Dr. D. G. Johnston, of Cartorton, leaves on Thursday next on a holiday trip to Scotland. During his absence Dr. P. M. Gunn will act as his locum tenens. In all probability the Wainliine Bridge will be closed against all traffic on Monday next. Repair work will then be commenced, and it will probably be some time before it i 9 finished. The raising of the broken span will be effected by driving extra piles and packing up the broken structure to enable a new oorbol to be inserted. Subsequently both councils will consider the advisability of erecting a new bridge of ferro. concrete. The• annual sports gathering of 'the Gladstone Sports Club will bo held on Anniversary Day on Mr. J. Strang's propprty nt Glenside. Mr. P. J- Sweeney, who for some timo past has been manager of the local branch of'Messrs.'Geo. Davies, Ltd., tailors, leaves here at the end of tl)« month for San Frnncisco, to take up an appointment. Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney will sail bv tliO'Tahiti. Frionds of Mrs. A. L. Whyte, who was thrown out of n buggy on Boxing Day, will lie pleased to hear that she is making cood recovery from the effects of . the accident. •
