Tho latest to bs reported occurred yesterday, when a young man named Alfred Smith got into difficulties, and but for the assistance rendered by a young man named :Riady, would ;probably havo beendrowncd. Ready lost his hold of the drowning man once, but dived; and, secured him .again, finally reaching shore safely. '■■■>■ .To-day was observed ,fts a holiday ,by most of-the shops. Thera nero no'special amusfenients in town, but a large crowd went to Marton for tho races, while many visited Castlecliil in the afternoon.
