ORDER OF "THE STAR IN THE EAST."
.The seoond annual conference'of the New Zealand section of the Order df the Star in the East was 'held in the' Thcosoplucal' Society's rooms, Ballance Street, yesterday at 11 a.m., .tliero being present over 70 members from various parts of the Dominion. The order state tint their .essential tenet is "the belief in the .near coming' of a great World Teacher and .tho willingness, to work in preparation for the' advent."
Owing to the fact that a large number of the members of the order' are also, members of the Theosophical Society,, it Was: found convenient to hold this conference at the same time as tho Theosophical Society's Convention, and the local lodge of the society kindly gave the use <>f their rooms ;for the purpose. -The main work of . the conference was the discussion of the best methods for the conduct, of the. meetings of'the order and study classes,for members, the distribution. of literature.; and the bringing of the message of the. Coming before, the public. Tho organising' secretaries for the two islands, Miss C.. W. Christie, the travelling organiser, and others brought forward reports of the work throughout tlifl Dominion', there being now 28 branches and centres in New Zealand, with a total membership of over ;90f1.. The definite organisation of the order dates back little more than a year.,
