WELLINGTON'S MEETING. 1 UNCOMFORTABLE CONDITIONS, .; — . • , The •'Wellingtori Eifle Association opened its annual meeting at the Tronthaui Eifio Range yesterday morning. The weather was anything but comfortable for tho competitors, and, accordingly, the shooting was not bo good as had been anticipated. It rained continuously throughout the day. In tho morning it was more or less calm, and in the afternoon tho wind I 'veered soniowliat to the south, and throughout the afternoon varied from 4 to 7 degrees south-west. In the early part of tho day tho light was patchy, an.d caused,marksmen some difficulty with tho new head-and-shoulders targets, which were being used for the first time. Sharp squalls of rain, at times almost obliterated tho figure. Later in tho day the light' improved, although at times the .rain, becoming heavier, marksmen were handicapped.' There were 188 marksmen present and competing. Major Matheson (Wellington College) acted'as chief range officer, and was assisted by Captains Brown (unattaohed) and Frandi (Senior Cadets), and Lieutenants Clifford Smith (Senior Cadets), and J. Smith (Signalling Corps), and Staff-Ser-geant-Major Sandhani, Captain Wilkinson (sth Eertment), and Staff -Sergeant-Major Millett had charge or" the tenant C 'Oasquoine (sth Regiment), assisted by Riflemen Fellinghain (Suburbs) ;and Cowan (Karori), comprised the secretarial and treasury staff. .No. 8 match at GOO yards resulted in a win for Rifleman' Hudson (Palmerston North) with a score of 48. Eifleman Smart (Suburbs) was second with 47. The detailed results will be printed to-mor-row,.' ■".■.'•.
