Mr. and Mrs. J. Perano, of Picton, accompanied by a Wellington lady and a child, had an exciting adventure at the •wharves lata on Christmas Eve (says the Picton "Press"). Whilo going on board the Waitohi the lady and child fell into the harbour, and Mr. Perano jumped in to save them. Ho got hold of tho child, and the lady then' managed to clutch hold of Mm. He passed the child to Mrs. Perano on tho looat, and somehow matters were made worso by the latter over-bal-ancing, and, ivith her burden, joining tho others in the water. Luckily tho cries for help were heard, and Mr. Charles
Forbes and others immediately rushed to tho rescue. Mr. Perano had again managed to secure the littlo one, and after some difficulty had the ladies safely above water, one holding his leg and another his turn, while ho; clutched on to tho sido of i. tho Waitohi,. They were all landed Iflafely,
