A Sydney Marriage. Tho marriage of Dr. Morehead Baiter, of Melbourne, and Miss Lilian Tan ton, third daughter of Mrs. T. Tauton, of Mosman, Sydney, and formerly of Auckland, was celebrated at St. Phillip's Church, Sydney, on December 11. The bride was given away by her mother. Miss Queenie Tanton was the only bridesmaid. Only members of the family and intimate friends were present at tho wedV ding breakfast. .

Christmas in Prison. When all Wellington was enjoying itself in the holiday festivities the less fortunate portions of the community were not forgotten, and among these even i&P women prisoners in the city gaol had their share of Christmastide. By per? mission of the- Hon. A. L. Hcrdtuan, Minister for Justice, Mr. E. Arnold, on behalf of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, took a party up to the gaol on Christmas afternoon, and an enjoyable concert was given for the benefit of the women. Mr. Soarilon, the governor of the gaol, and Miss Boulcot,, the chief matron, gave every assistance to make the function pass off pleasantly. _ Each of the women received a bag of fruit and a piece of cake.. Music was provided by Signer and Signorina Valdaha, and two of the women prisoners sang. Miss Lulu Arnold recited, and finally came a number of selections'on Mr. Scanlon s gramaphone. At the end of the programme one of the women thanked Mr. Arnold and all those who had been kind enough to assist in providing the entertainment. -

Madame Carreno, Mine. Carreno, who gave a recital at Queen's Hall on- November 6, celebrated this year the fiftieth anniversary'of her debut in public at a charity concert jin New Xork. She appeared in London from time to time, but it is only since 1889 that she became a fairly regular visitor to the metropolis. Year by year her fame increased, and at the present day it shows no sign of diminishing. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Beaucharap are spending a holiday at Waiwera, Auckland. , Dr. A. A. Martin, of Palmerston North, with Mrs. Martin, is at present in Otago for a week's fishing. Mrs. Orraond (Hawke's Bay) is the guest of Mrs. Pyne at Christchurch. Mrs. and Miss Elworthy returned to Christchurch on Friday, after having been abroad the last two years. Mrs. H. Acland, of Christchurch, returned from England last week. Mrs. Barnicoat has returned to Christchurch from.a- trip to England, and js at present the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Wall, The engagement is announced of Miss Elsio Dunnage, third daughter of Sir. and Mrs. F. W. Dunnage, of Avonside, Christchurch, to Mr. Arthur Stewart, of Riccarton. Tho variableness of Wellington weather is a prime factor in causing roughness of tho skin. Wind and rain join forces in this fell work by making the complexion coarso and chapping the hands.
