AT AWAPUNI
GREAT GALLOP BY SINAPIS. Various rumours were, afloat in the city on Tuesday to the effect that all was not well with Bronze, but this is quite unfounded, and the mare will bo a starter in the Manawatu Cup to-day. She will be ridden by her usual' pilot, A. Oliver. The only unlikely runners in the Cup held are Mendip, for whom it has been found impossible to get a suitable horseman, and Odessa, who is reported to have a "leg." On the plough track yesterday, morning Sinapia ran a mile in lmin. Usee, which is the fastest mile ever, timed on that particular track at Awapuni. If the St. Ambrose mare gets beaten to-day she may be seen- to advantage later on at the meeting, as B. Deeley arrives from Auckland on Friday, and his services will no doubt be secured for her and others during the two concluding days of the meeting. On all sides it is admitted that tiro Cup is very open, but Bronze and Mira have a slight call over the others. The grey horso ran n particularly good mile on the grast. on Tuesday morning, and at present he seems better than'ever ho was. ' ■ .
Manakau, in the Gillies Hack, Bonny Helen, in the Juvenile Handicap, and Lucerne, in the Hack Welter, are likely to be made favourites this afternoon.
