THE TSAREVITCH.

GLIMPSES OF HIS DAILY LIFE. It has been a source of (rreat regret . to loyal Russians that the cast-iron etiquette of the Imperial Court has hitherto prevented them from obtaining even the least glimpse of the daily life of the Txareviteh, but to-day the curtain has been lifted and it is possible to give some idea of the young Prince's education, occupations, and amusements; writes the Russian correspondent of the "Westminster Gazette" of October 30. . Tho most striking of the'pictures thus afforded is perhaps that of the future ruler of the great,Bussian, Empire drilling with tho sons of non-commissioned officers and privates. But the account generally reveals the .average Jiuman boy., Eoring over his bdoks-n.for. the - allotted ours, and then scauinering . about the country, , "scouting," bird-nesting, bathing, vboating,,and bicycling. The Empress devotes hefself to her little son's moral and' religious training, and also teaches him English. Systematic lessons were begun about a year ago, the teaching being given by Russian.and.French tutors, and a religious instructor, who accompany the Imperial family to Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof, the Crimea, and;wherever else they may go, except for two months duriag the summer holidays, Lessons are given daily,, starting at nine o'clock. The TzarevitcV is vivacious, ■ intelligent, and eager • to learn, asking endless questions. He is very fond of the lives of the saints, especially St. Seraphim, whose canonisation at Tamboff his parents attended in 11)03, and whom popular bolief associates with tho continuance of the dynasty in the direct male line. He never tires, of hearing stories of the legendary heroes _ of' Russia. His physical training, consisting of gymnastic Swedish exercises and elementary military drill, is often -watched by the Tsar. While his lessons are taken alone . in his out-of-doors recreation, the Tsarevitch has numerous companions, and in his "scouting" . expeditions with them thoroughly enters into the Boy Scout spirit, joining heartily in the choruses of the scout songs, and eo on. In the winter he goes toboganning down ice-hills, and takes part in other winter pastimes. He continues to be attended wherever he goes by the sailor Dorevenko, of tho Imperial yacht Standard. '
