GRAND SPORTS CARNIVAL.
At a meeting of the sports bodies, held recently, a project was discussed in the direction of holding a grand sports earnival to raise funds to beautify the reserves of the city. It was then resolved to ask the Mayor to call a public meeting of all likely to be interested. In today's isstra. the. Mayor convenes _this meeting to be held in bis rmm atSnV.-vV this evening. Koprusenlativos of all snorts and athletic bodies, th" Arts Club, of the citv, and citizens havis:* an interest in this' work, are expected to bo present. The. proceeds of the carnival will be handed over to the City Council for the purpose indicated. A similar carnival was held last year in Dunedin, and resulted financially in a "sum of about ,£IOOO being handed over to the Dunedin Council.
