PUNJAUBIS ON THE QUAY.
OFF TO ARGENTINA. Attention, of pedestrians on Lambtoft Quay and in Willis Street-yesterday afternoon was dra\vn to 6ix>rather,.stran!;c-' looking individuals. It scorn's tliat tli'sy were Punjaubis on their way to the Argentine. There are thirty-seven of them, in all in Wellington, and tliey are to leave this port by the lonic on December 27. They'liaro-been.working .inthe Fiji Islands, and are being talcen to the Argentine by.Mr. J. Davis, agent for Messrs. Brown and Joskc, of Suva. According to Mr. Davis they are strong and wiry, and ara linrd workers. Other inquiries elicited tlio fact that they will not eat anything except that which is cooked by one_ of their own number. One of them ,is a cook, and during the voyage on the lomo he will undertake'all cuisine matters tor v his compatriots and co-religionists. As these Indian, men require some rather minute supervision .Ml'; IhiviS only takea six 1 out for a'street jaunt at a time. Before they were allowed to land MrDavis hail to enter into a bond with tlio Government for the sum of -<£100 for each Pnnjaubi. Another batch of them is likely to arrive within the course of a few days.
