BISHOP GORE AND THE WAR.
The, Bishop of Oxford, in a letter to his diocese, refers to tho war in the Balkans, as tfl which ho says:— "Among tho many complicated, issues of tho war, there is one simple, and, I think, dominant issue present. It is that a combined blow has been : struck to liberate tho Balkan' peoples—our fellow Christians most of them—from the intolerable tyranny and misgovcrnm'ent of so manyj' centiiries. I trust that, however anxious tho questions that arise, and howover mixed tho motives of the chief actors in the war, at least wo may rest assured that Englishmen will not consent to the re-establishment of the situation as it has been hitherto." Tho Bishop suggests the use of the Bidding Prayer before tho sci'mon in which the peopfo should bo asked to pray that jioace and good government may l>e won for tho Balkan provinces, and tho general of Europo maintained, followed by is Lord's .Prayer. When thoro is no sermon, prayer may bo asked at the offertory in the Communion Service; or tho Collect for the sth Sunday after Trinity said at any service.
