SOUTH WELLINGTON SCHOOL.

Out of respect for a highly esteemed member ot tno.staif, who uieu as recwitly as a fortnight ago, the committee and teachers oi the boutli Wellington Scnooi decided to dispense with auy lorniai ceremony at the breakiug-up of the school, but opportunity was taken by the headmaster (Mr. G. Flux) to give a lew words of counsel to tho children, especially to those of them who were leaving the school for good to proceed to tile secondary schools, to the technical scnool, or to work, urging tiiem to bo loyal to the traditions of the school which, they were leaving, and to carry a similar loyalty into the schools to which they were proceeding. lii tho case of those who were going straight. into work, that loyalty, if it wore of the stamp ho lipped it was, would often keep them ' straight when temptations came to be slack in their work, or to make play and sport the chief aim of life. Kept in its proper place sport, clean sport, would serve a vaj.uablo purpose, but it must be a loyalty, which subordinated everything to the good naino of the clubs to which they belonged, and selfish 'interests must be brushed aside. Aiter wishing the tefichers and children a happy Christmas holiday, the headmaster presented Isabel Clark, tho dux of the school, with the gold medal given by Mr. Crengel for this purpose, that gentleman having given a similar medal for several years past. The committee and teachers, thank Mr. Crengel for his present. Seventy-three proficiency and 19 competency certificates ivero presented to pupils of the sixth standard, ulso 82 first-class and 111 second-class attendance certificates were distributed, together with a number of swimming certificates given by the Amateur Swimming Association.
