THE RED FEDERATION
ATTITUDE OF KAILWAYMEN. Once again (soys the "Hallway Review") tlio militant little section of wharf workers at Thnaru has taken a holiday on the slender pretence of a protest against the employment'of two casual railwaymcu who aro not members of tho federation of Labour. A conplo of months ago the samo thing happened, and the strikers, having'uindc themselves look ridiculous before the whole community, uttered a few bombastic platitudes, and went back to work. Now they desiro another flare-up—the Wnihi fiasco being over—but tho federation executive throws cold water on their ardour. The majority of federationists aro heartily sick of being dragged, willy-nilly, into disputes which- do no good to a single individual, and tend to further alienate the Federation of Labour from tho mass of decent people who are accustomed to look for a reason for so serious a thing as a strike. In the present case tho Timavu wharf workers aro objecting to work with two men who are just as good unionists as they are, though they belong to an organisation which does not malco war merely for the sport of blood-letting.
