BOXING.
WELSH BEATS MEHEGAN. By Telosraph—Press Association—CoDyrieht London, December 18. In Hid watch against the Australian boxer, Hugh Mehegan, Welsh, who won on points, showed great pace and judgment. He had the test of matters throughout, though he slackened in the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth rounds, when Mehegan was aggressive. AYclsh regained his po.ee in ' the succeeding round. Mehegan always had a dangerous punch, but Welsh outmanoeuvred him both at close and long range fighting. Mehegan was nonplussed at his opponent's speed', and futilcly attempted a knockout in the nineteenth round. . (Kec.'December IT, 10.5 p.m.) London, December 17. Welsh showed splendid defence, and his footwork and general ring-craft were very clever, frequently frustrating Mehegan's chance of landing a good blow. Mehegan was very strong in attack, and always threatened danger, but he found Welsh difficult to liit. There was a good deal of clinching during the latter part of tho contest. • HEGARTY MATCHED AGAIN. (By Tolestrapli.—Special Corrasponcont.] Hastings, December 12. Hegarty, the light-weight champion, has been matched to box "Alt" Bromwich for the title and a ,£SO purse, at Hastings, on the night of January 30.
