A DEPARTING ''ORPHAN."

DR. ARNOLD W. IZARD,

Members of tho Orphans' Club congregated in the Grand Hotel at 5 o'clock yesterday to bid farewell to, Dr. Arnold W. Izard, who-was president of the club and Chief Orphan for two of tho threo .years of the club's existence, on the eve of his departure to take up his new position as physician to the King of Tonga. Colonel Collins, president of tho club, expressed the goodwill of members to Dr. Izard, and assured him they all felt that, they were losing a good comrade, a good friend, and a good citizen. They all wished him success in Tonga, and assured him of a hearty welcome should he' ever como back to New Zealand. On behalf of the club he asked Dr. Izard to accept a gold badge of a life member of the, Orphans' Club, and they hoped it might occasionally bring to "his mind happy memories. He also proposed the health of Dr. Izard, and the toast was honoured in approved fashion.

■ The Mayor (Mr.. D. M'Laren) and Mr. R. A. Keenan; secretary of the club, also spoke of Dr. Izard's good service as an Orphan and as a citizen. Dr. Izard, replying;- thanked the speakers for all the kind things said about him, and members of .the 'club for their kindly thought and • their gift. Ho was very proud to he the first life member of the club. He explained that he was leaving Wellington on account of his health, and he was going "where beyond the waters there is peace. He wished the club success, and he hoped to find it flourishing if he should ever visit Wellington again.
