GIRL AND HAN SHOT DEAD.

BODIES FOUND ON ROADSIDE AT MARTON.

SEQUEL TO LOVE AFFAIR.

Palmerston N,, December 16,-'. Word has been received ,of a double tragedy at Marton Junction to-day.- ••■ •■

A horseman, riding along the road in. the vicinity of the Marton Junction station, was nearly thrown, through his horse shying at some object lying on the roadside. Ho rods up to Eee what tho object was, and found it to be the body, of a girl. He immediately reported tha matter to tho police. ; Another body, that of a man, was also lying near.

Tho man was reported to be H. W. Urquart, of Wellington, and tho girl Lorna Gordon, of Marton.

Tho information so far obtained is to the effect that Urquart is a carpenter, of Wellington, and that recently he wast engaged at Marton as clerk of works on a residence in courso of erection. While there he bscarno acquainted -with. Miss Gordon, who was 20 or 21 years ol age,' Several letters ba4 passed between tb,evn',' ; . but the reiatires of Iho girl objected to tho intimacy between the, two. Urquart had gone back to Wellington, and a day or two ago wrote to Miss Gordon, from there, telling, her that a friend of his, would reaoh Marton by the Main.Trunk train to-day, and asking her to exchange the letters that haft passed between, them, with him.

The girl apparently had corao in from' Fern Flats, where she was,residing with, her relatives, and had gone to the train to keep the appointment.
