A mooting of tlio Society for tho Protection of Women and Children was held on Inday afternoon, ■ Mrs. Vt. A. Evans (president) presiding; There were present: Mesdames A. E. Atkinson, J. Kirkcaldie, C. ll..lzard, J. It. Glasson, F. Ward, D. M'Laran, G. Ponsonby, and Glover. Cases that had undergone investigation wore reported upon, and it was decided .to givo help where necessary. The' following subscriptions were acknowledged with thanks:—Tho Hon. C. J.• Johnston, 215.; Bannalyno and Co., 10s.; Mrs. D. Ritchie, 65.; Mrs. Brice, 55.; Mrs. J. M. Richardson, 55.; Mr. E. Anderson, 55.; lurs. I\ Isitt, 55.; Mr. F. Isitt, 55.; Mrs. A. Anderson, ss. Miss E. C. Northcote, only daughter of Mrs. Cecil Northcoto, of Tinaltori Road, left Wellington yesterday by tho Moeraki for Sydney. From there sho sails by tho s.s. Orama for Cairo. Her marriage .with Mr. Francis Gowartl-Webstcr, of tho Egyptian Army, Khartum, takes place on January 20, 1913. The "following are among tho guoste slaying at the Occidental.Hotel:—Mr. and Mrs. A. Wall (Plimmerton), Miss M. Chambers (Plimmei'ton), Mrs. Brotherton (Wanganui), Mr. and Mrs. Barton (Hawcra), Mr. and Mrs. Mac Lean (Geraldine), Mrs. Delancy (Foilding), Mrs. French (Dannevirko), and Dr. Sinclair (Dannevirke). Miss Bromner, of the Women's Labour Department, Ghuznco Street, has kindly consented to rocoivo Christmas gifts for the girls of the Levin Homo at Berhamporo. The ceremonial opening of tho Lahmann Health Homo by tho Hon. W. F. Massoy, Prime Minister, takes place this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Trains leavo Courtenay Place for Miramar at 2 p.m. and Dr. Edith Huntley and staff will bo "at home" from 2.30 p.m. Mrs. W. H. Nelson (Woodvillo) and hor children are staying at Island Bay Houso. Miss Lilian Grant (Woodville) passed through Wellington on her way to Christchurch yesterday. ' Tho Misses Burnett (Nelson) aro on a visit to Wellington.
