PRIZE GIVINGS.

ST. CATHERINE'S SCHOOL. The breaking-up ontertainmont and distribution of prizes in connection with St. Catherine's School was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom on-Saturday evening, and was one of the most enjoyable entertainments 'in connection with school children's functions that have been held. Tho schoolroom had been prettily decorated with flowers and grasses, tho red geraniums adding a particularly cheery note to the appearance of the room. The stage had beon draped with Union Jacks, and in a conspicuous, place was the school banner, dark green and blue in colour, with "S.C.S." (tho school's initials) embroidered upon it. The programme had boen arranged entirely by the pupils, and every item was contributed by them. Two scenes from "Julius Caesar," finishing with the assassination of Caesar, and Mark Antony's oration, were particularly well done. Little Miss Joye Eggers sang a song which she had composed herself, words and music, and she played her own accompaniment. Altogether it was a rather unique performance from one so young. Another clever young performer was little Hazel Jeffery, who recited. The remainder of tho programme was of duets, songs, and recitations. • The prizes were awarded by Miss Holmes, who congratulated the Principal of the school, Miss Butts, upon the excellent training which was displayed in the programme carried out by the girls. Particularly was she pleased with their elocution and pronunciation, which was remarkably free from a twang. In addition to the ordinary school prizes, those offered for competition by the Victoria League for map-dTawing from memory, of which St. Catherine's School won five out of the six, were presented to the successful competitors. Miss Holmes and the teachers received bouquets from the pupils. Miss Butts, who is leaving for England early next year, was the recipient of a traveling nig. from her pupils, and Miss Perkins, who is severing her connection with the school on account of her approaching marriage, received a very charming vase. Miss Shepherd also was presented with an art vase from the children. The singing of. Kipling's "Recessional" concluded a'very enjoyable evening. The prize list is as follows;— Prize List for Seniors.
