A HEALTH HOME.

THE OFFICIAL OPENING. The official opening of the Lalunann Health Home at Aliramar, was held 011 Saturday afternoon. There were over 200 visitors, mostly ladies, at the function. The institution, which is controlled by Doctors Von Dannevill and Edith Huntley,, has teen, in fact, open for some months,' and is now a- well-established "going crincern." It was the Prime Minister (tho Hon. W. F. Massey) who declared the homo open. He said ha had pleasure in complying with the request made to him to do whatever might Le necessary in declaring the Home open. . He had been informed that the home was the first of its kind in the British Dominions, and the first one in all the world to bo entirely conducted by women. Ho gathered that Iho.objeot of it was, in 1 the first' in'stanee to : prb'vide' a place where peoplo suffering from chronio disease or permanent weakness might be afforded all the relief possible, even if it were not possible to effect a permanent cure, and in tho next instance to provide a home where business men, pro-' f'es-sional men, or even politicians, if they happened to be over-worked, could be given an opportunity of recuperating, and recovering • their ordinary health. Some day it might be necessary for. him to come to tho home, but, as they could all gather from appearances, that time was not yet . (Laughter and ■ "Hear, hear!"). Ho had learned with satisfaction, also,. that fresh air and' sunshino wore among tho curative agencies • relied upon in,the institution. There were most important factors in' tho fostering of good health, and, speaking as a layman, he thought they should be used as auxiliaries to other treatment wherever possiblo. He was oxceeddngly pleased with all that lio had seen in the establishment j the building was a very suitable one; and without there was always fresh air from tho sea. He hoped the institution would, have a long career of usefulness, and he had much pleasure in declaring it omciallv oDen. (Applause.) , Tho Rev. Mr. Blackburnej vicar of the parish, said he had had enough experience of tho home to know that it was, really doing good work. It had already beon of great benefit, and he was there-

for© glad to recommend the home, and to congratulate the proprietors on the success of their enterprise. The visitors were then given an opportunity of looking over the home, and afterwards tea was served inside the building. The Miramar Band played a number of selections, and songs wero sung to those within doors by Mr. Hamil--1 ton Hodges. Advantage was taken by very ninny of the visitors to the Lahmann Home of inspecting, under tho guidance of Dr. Edith Huntley and Dr. Von Danneville, the building and the electric appliances with which it has been installed. Tho one thing they did not try was the electric bath. The matron, Nurse Wonersley, was untiring in her explanations of the working of the' appliances, and in many oases of giving to desiring but half-fear-ful guests a slight foretaste of what tho treateiuent js really like. Tho home lends itself 'admirably to the ;,fresh-oir>7 treatment, for Miramar is rarely without breezes of a more or less gentle . kind. Tho balcony, which runs round two sides of tho house, is a delightful place in which to get the full benefit of the Bun, and if the stormy winds will blow, they can be out-manoeuvred by chosing discreetly that side which is out of its jurisdiction. Mrs. Massey and Miss Massey accompanied the Prime Minister, and among others who were present -were: Mrs. and Miss Seatoun, 1 Mrs. John Blundell, Mrs. Atkins, Dr. and Mrs. Henry, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Gieson, Dr. M'Callum, Miss Kohu. Miss Lees, Dr. Faulke, Mr. and Mrs. Tregear, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley SDragg, Mrs. and Miss Doughty, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Levvey, Captain and Mrs. Post, Mrs. J. P. Luke and Miss Luke, Miss Mabberlv, Mrs. Reading, Mrs. Malcolm Ross, Miss Soxton, the Rev. Mr. Blackburne and Mrs. Blackburne, Miss Ward, Mr. Watson, and a great many other people. The Miramar district 'wag naturally well represented among the visitors.
