NEW ORGAN.

~ *- v.' . The new organ at the Sacred Heart Church at Timarti was.built by Mr. Arthur Hobdav, a sou of tho-late Arthur Hobdav, of Hobday and Sons. The organ was built throughout in the factory at Wellington. The action of the organ is of the latest tubular pneumatic stylo throughout. .Tho console is divided from the organ so as to allow the organist to have complete control over the choir. There are six pneumatic pistons and six penumatic pedals, and two balance-pedals, swell and choir. The - touch piston and pedals are extremely responsive. Great credit is due to the builder for this; with all couplers and full organ drawn there is no difference in the weight of touch. The design is in keeping with the church. The woodwork is of walnut dull polished. The console, to match the fittings, is in English quartered oak. aud the front pipes are of aluminium finish, the grand open and diapason, 16ft. forming the two sides. Mr. Hobday has had to use several old stops that were saved from the fire out of the old organ. The rcvoicing of tho various stops has .been a very delicate matter. Mr. Hobday brought from AVellington a small voicing chest, and it has done yeoman's work and lias been in use from early morn to the still small hours. This part of the work entails an immense amount of care and years of experience, and that cacli stop shall lx» finally finished in the church is one of the most up-to-dato methods of the artists of or?an-bnilding. Tho old pipes, mndo of thin and poor metal, had to be brought up to the heavy and sonorous tones of the new and heavy pipes. Tiiat this' lias been''satisfactory and carefully dono could bo hoard when Mr. Bunz played tho various pieces-, yesterday. Mr.'Bunz, after carefully picking out the various stops to show the instrument off, expressed his pleasure aud complimented Mr. Hobday on his success.
