o j (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, December 10. The Masterton County - Council. to-day endorsed the proposal of tho Patea County Council to approach the Government with a view to securing an alteration of the law relating to the collection of rates on Native land. It transpired at a meeting of the County Council to-day that many grants for road works which appeared on the Estimates on the pound for pound basis will not be available owing to the local authority having reached the limit of its borrowing powers. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Presbytery to-day, the Eov. J. S. Young was elected Moderator for tho ensuing year.
