The contest between "Jim" Hegarty.of Timaru, and "Les" Porter, of Hastings, which is to take place locally on Wednesday. niglit is arousing considerable interest, in Hawke's Bay. The pair : compete for a purse of 50 sovs., and as each con-, testant has a practically unbeaten record, till) result is being keenly anticipated by sportsmen. 'During the course of Inst week Porter had a "try-out" in the pres : ence of thirty or forty Hastings, enthusiasts. He had as opponents .five local boxerii, varying'in weight from.bantams to heavy-weights. Porter, encountered, .these in'' qiriclc l 'successi6ii''nhd 'displayed '.'exceptionally fine condition, as well as the abil-. ity to. deal with a variety of attack. Locally he is a favourite for the oontest, as it is considered that his additional weight will enable him to' score over the scientific' Hegarty. . • • A.WIN FOR DEVITT. At Adelaide on December 2, the New Zealand middle-weight, "Gus" Devitt, defeated "Jack" Willis in fourteen rounds. Willis calling for tile towel.
