As anticipated from his opposition to ' tho Federal referendum proposals, Mr. Beeby, State Minister for Lands, has resigned his seat (Blayney) and tho port- f folio of Lands. This leaves tho Govern- 1 ment practically without a majority in e the Legislative Assembly. It is under- ' stood that Mr. Beeby intends to recoritest Blayney, and, if elected, to sit as an independent supporter of tho Government. It will not be necessary for tho Government to consider its position until after the by-election. j NOT A HAPPY FAMILY., 1 (Reo. December 10, 1 a.m.) i Sydney, December 9. ' It ia rumoured that Cabinet is not a 1 happy family in connection with the tak- f ing over of Government House. One section led by the Premier, Mr. M'Gowen, ' desires for the property to be quietly transferred, while another section, .favours a big demonstration. Further trouble is • predicted.
