OBITUARY.
MR. RICHMOND BEETHAIT. > (By TelesTapl.—Special Correspondent.) Mastorton, December 9. Hr. Richmond Beetham, formerly Stipendiary Magistrate at Christchurch and elsewhere, died suddenly at nine oclocic to-night. He had been fishing all day at Tupurupuru, ana had some little ainiculty in-getting his motor-car to start oa the leturn journey. This it is thought mar have caused rupture of the heart. He was walking, with Mr William Beetham in the garden of the latter s residence, when he suddenly fell backwards and expired. , j. TThe late Mr. Beetham was bora at Horncastle, Yorkshire, England, on April 80 1836. and was the eldest son oi tna late Mr. William Beetham. He was educated at the Elyeeleeshen Grammar School, and arrived in New Zealand in 1855. after spending two years on the Australian go Id fields. He entered the New Zealand Public Service on October 8, 1862, and was appointed warden ot tlie Otago goldfields and Resident Magistrate in April, 1863. He subsequently held ap-nointnients-as Resident and Stipendiary Magistrate at Napier, Timani, and Christchurch, retiring in 1900.J
