: NOTES ANa.COMMENTS, [Bi Gi.ekcoe.] Little Harry M'lntosh, who was seriously injured when Biddy fell with him on the second day of the Blenheim meeting, died at Blenheim on Friday evening. The body was brought to Wellington on Saturday, and the funeral took place at Hutt, where deceased's widowed mother and his family reside. . The cortege was a large one, and the whole of the Trentham stables were represented. Some surprise was expressed locally when it'was known that Gladiole had not been accepted for in the Scctt Memorial Handicap at Bulls, as the St. Clements riiare had been galloping very well on the Awap.uni tracks, ami, one morning recently, she rail off five furiongs in lmin. 2S3C. ' y With better handling Loch Mabin might have won the big handicap at Woodville on Thursday, and at the Hastings meeting 011 New Year's Day the bay gelding -may give proof of this. Entering the straight in the race in question at Woodville, liis rider had a threelengths' break on the field, but he was not content with that, and kept at his mount, with the result that he was beaten a good way from home. A private cablegram received in Palmerston North on Friday statsd that Powder Fox, owned by T. Wilson, had won a race, in ilelbourno. There will 'be racing at Bulls on Wednesday and Thursday. The acceptances for the first day's 'events are published this morning. > Extensive alterations have been completed on the Bulls course, these including the enlargement of the totalisator house, and everything will bo in readi--1 ness for the race meeting this week. According 'to an American paper, a ' remarkable endurance record was made in September by a mare belonging to C. T. Good, of Apache, Okla., when the animal was extricated from a cave after being confined for fourteen days and nights without food or water, or without being able to lie down. The mare is seven years old, and weighed 5981b. after being rescued. • Dearest, who has been spelling since the Dunedin meeting in June last, is to make her reappearance on the racecourse in the Scott Memorial Handicap at Bulls on Wednesday next. Several Blenheim-trained horses are to be brought across to race in the Wairarapa Christmas and New Year meetings. ' Undecided and Big Blast, who are now trained by 11. Kingan at Trentham, arrived at their new quarters 011 Wednesday last. Mr, E. J. Watt's team for the A.uck-
land meeting nre expected- to arrive in the northern citv on Saturday next. About the same "time the horses representing the Chokebore, Yaldhurst, and Mr. Eobbs's stables at Riccarton nre due to make an appearaiice. 11. Chaafe, who has been for some time past head- lad for J. M. Cameron, has commenced training on his own account. He has had Donzel and Mummer, by Gazclev (imp.)— Mimic, placed in his hands "to train, Mummer having been rcccntlv purchased from Mr. E. J. Watt. It is F. E. Jones, and not his Hastings namesake, who has been engaged to ride Vice-Admiral, in the Auckland Cup.
A number of entries were received too late to be accepted for the Wairarapa Racing Club's meeting. The horses affected are: Byron, Makara, Rangikapua, Passadena, Sir Daniel, Lord Possible, and Immensity.
Our local correspondent states that the Masterton Racing Club has been advised that the secretary of the Sports Protection League will visit the district in February with a view to forming a branch of'the league there.
