WARSHIP NEWS

SOME OF THE SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. His Excellency Admiral Sir G. KingHall (in command of the Australasian Squadron) arrived back at Wellington from Lyttelton by H.M.S. Cambrian on Saturday morning. During the day his Excellency paid an official visit to the Acting-Governor (Sir Robert Stout), who subsequently returned the visit. As he stepped aboard the Drake, he was accorded the customary salute by the warship's guns. Admiral King-Hall was present at the Y.M.C.A. men's meeting yesterday afternoon. This afternoon Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher, wife of the Hon. tho Minister.ior Marine, will hold a reception to his Excellency in the Mission to'Seaineu's rooms. On Saturday afternoon several detachments of Boy Scouts visited tho flagship, and were 6hown over the vessel by bluejackets. Yesterday afternoon being beautifully fine, a large number of people availed themselves of the opportunity afforded by the Ferry Company and a private firm to visit the cruiser. Mr. Cecil Palmer,-secretary of the Nary League, announces that arrangements have been made for financial members of the league, who are attending tho Boys' Colleges in Wellington, to visit the Drake to-morrow afternoon. Boats will leave the ruan-o'-war steps at 2.45 p.m. sharp. Prior to the boys' visit ; members of the )ca.?ue attending the Girls' Colleges will bs taken over the flagship. Arrangements for entertaining tho men of the warships now in port were well in hand, but unfortunately the duration of the time of tho Drake's stay in port is so' limited that tho function had to be abandoned. • Tho big cruiser will take her departure for Sydney, via Milford Sound, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. H.M.S. Torch will probably remain at Wellington for some time yot.
