At G o'clock yesterday morning the death occurred of Mrs. Mary i'orster, wile of Sergeant Forster (in charge of the Petono police), at his residence, Elizabeth Street. At the monthly sitting of the Justioes' Court at Petone, belore Messrs. Coles and W'akeham, two first oiiender6, charged with committing a breach of tho peace, were.fined 55., with Vs. costs, in default forty-eight .hours' imprisonment. .One iirst offender for insobriety was convicted and discharged. The montnly meeting of the Lower Hutt Fire Brigade was held last evening. ■ In tho absence of the captain, Lieutenant M'llvride occupied'the chair. The Fire Brigade's. :to''siii>ply"a,. at '2os. per set.—ltesolved to accept the-.offer. Regarding tho benefit to Fireman B. Fleet, who met with an accident at tho Labour Day- demonstration, members expressed willingness tb assist the Petone committee in every possible way. The Demonstration Oommittee forwarded a description of the. manual engine to be used at the demonstration' on February 19 and 20, 1913. In reply to a complaint of using hoses without authority, the Hutt Borough engineer stated that explicit instructions had been given to always consult the captain in cases of this kind. Regarding the couplings, which- were mislaid, tho engineer pointed out that some years ago three pair of couplings had been used by the council, and afterwards replaced. Later, the brigado received the old couplings back. Valve-keys were on order, and would be ready shortly, and an official of the council had been instructed to look after the gear in the daytime.— Received. The following were presented with awards of service: Fireman Devel'eaux, five years' service njedal j Secretary Baldwin, two years' service bar; Lieutenant M'llvride, two years' service bar; Captain Slinn, two years' service bar; Assistant-Foreman Collett and Fireman Doran receiyed three years' service certificates. It was resolved to continue financial assistance to Fireman B. Fleet. The captain and lieutenant were authorised to make arrangements for a benefit for tho injured fireman. Lieutenant M'llvride moved that the meeting bo changed from Friday to another suitable evening. —The motion was lost.
