Show. At its meeting yosterday, the committee of Iho Hawke's Bay A. and I'. Society decided to light up tlio buildings at its Autumn show witlb electric light, and to keep tho show open for two days and nights. Tho Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agoncy Co., Ltd., and Reduced, report having held their monthly Pongaroa sale on Thursday, when they offered a medium yarding of sheop and cattlo to a small attendance of farmers, owing, no doubt, to shearing operations being "111 full swing. Tho firm, however, report a total clearance of all stock yarded at tluo following rates' Two-tooth wethers, 13s. id. to 13s. (id.; small 2-tooth wethers, lis. 10d.; yearling.steers, £3 Gs. to £3 Bs.; heifers in milk, £0 10s.; bulls, M to M 10s.
OTAKI. Some time ago tho Town Hall at Manak<au was destroyed by firo, and very soon the want of a building for social functions was felt. In consequence tho owner of the site (Mr. Richard Bevan) lost 110 tamo in re-erecting the structure.' Tho now building is at tho rear of tho railway station. The main hall measures 451t. by 35ft., with a 15ft. 6tud, "while tho is 35ft. wide; with , a depth of 14ft. to celebrate iho opening, a dance was held on Wednesday evening, tlio function being promoted in aid of tho prize fund for the Stato school. Thero was a largo attendance, those present including visitors from Otaki, Levin, and Ohau.
FEILDING. ■ Th» boys of tho Agricultural Class in camp at Almadale have been receiving practical lessons from Mr. Short on Romney sheep. Mr. Hugh Burrell 6ont over some Southdown rams, and the boys were given a demonstration in tho characteristics of this breed. In a cricket match with a visiting team from tho Feilding High School, the camp boys were beaten by three runs, after a good game. ■ Yosterday afternoon Mrs. Short entertained a largo crowd of visitors at tea. The camp will be struck this morning. The officer. commanding tho senior cadets in Feilding is leaving nothing undone to make the military training agreeable to the lads. On December 18 the company will go into camp on the section at the back of the Presbyterian Church. Sergeant-Major" Morrison will be in charge, and the camp will last a week. A squad of thirteen is now training for tlio Christchurch Military Sports on Deoember _ 24. • They aro practising squad drill, riflo exercises, physical drill, and tent pitching. Towards the expenses of the trip the Manchester Rifles corps has voted .£lO. A donor has given a cup for competition, and the officer commanding will probably make it a challenge trophy and award it to the scction making the highest aggregall In t'ho class-firing.
