A motor-car accident occurred at the Xnangahua Junction, when a motor-car, driven, by Mr. Sunderland, skidded' over , the bank. A fire at Patutahi this morning destroyed on eight-roomed house occupied "by Mr. J.. A. MacDonnell, and owned by Mr. T. M'lldownie. Tho building was insured for jE4SO in the Union office, and the furniture for .£250 in the South. British. HOSPITAL WARD FOR WOMEN. Dunedin, December 4. Tho foundation stone of the new ward for women at the Dunedin Hospital was , t laid by .the Hon. R. H. Rhodes this after'.hcon; This ward' is being erected as the result of the respons3 to an appeal made by Mr. Hugh J. Ward last year. The Minister will open a new post office at Kaitanga to-morrow. NELSON HARBOUR IMPROVEMENT. Nelson, December 4. The Nelson Harbour Board has decided J to take a.'poll of the ratepayers oh a proposal to carry out the works recom- • mended by Mr. R. W. Holmes, Engineer-in-Chief of the Marine Department, at a .cost of about ,£IO,OOO to improve the har--bour by dredging and widening the entrance ,to enable the port to be worked ' freely by.larger, ocean liners.
